Jonquil Events & Belgrade Theatre are proud to present the first ever South Asian Music show to happen at the Belgrade Theatre in the Main Auditorium since the Belgrade Theatre opened in 1955.

Ustad Haji Ameer Khan and brothers have come from one of Indias most ancient and respected musical families. Ameer Khan is the son of Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan who served as a mentor and teacher to the famous Sabri Brothers.

Since settling in the UK in 1991, they have been at the forefront of bringing traditional South Asian music to the UK and have run one of the few groups in Britain singing both traditional Qawali and Ghazal music.

Originally from Karachi in Pakistan, the brothers come from a family that have been musicians for seven generations. Ustad Haji Ameer Khan, the lead singer learned from his older brother. By the age of 12 Ustad Haji Ameer Khan begun to perform alongside with the Khan brothers at weddings and internationally with his father. Following in his fathers footstep, Ustad Haji Ameer khan says “We would sing classical, pop and mixture of whatever the public needed”

Qawali music is the intense devotional style that is associated with Sufi Muslims, now well known in the west due to the success of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Ghazal music is more poetic with many of its lyrics being written in the Urdu Language and has been revived by artists such as Jagjit Singh and Khailash Kher.

Featuring a combination of both Qawali & Ghazals and traditional South Asians instruments, this show will leave you mesmerized.
